Jewelry Store Robbery In Ventura County Prompts Lockdown Of Three Schools

Posted on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 3:55pm

Three Simi Valley schools spent much of the day on lockdown today, as policed looked for a trio of men who robbed a jewelry store.

The armed men hit a store on the 1900 block of Sequoia Avenue just after 10:30 this morning.  The store’s owner suffered a minor injury during the robbery.  He says the trio stole more than $100,000 worth of jewelry.

The getaway car was abandoned a few miles away, and witnesses say the men fled on foot.

Simi Valley Police set up a perimeter around the area, and used a helicopter and police dogs to search for the robbers.

Police placed Mountain View Elementary, Crestview Elementary, and Hillside Middle School on precautionary lockdowns, and stationed officers at the campuses to insure the safety of the kids.

By mid afternoon, two suspects were in custody, with the search for a third continuing.  The schools released students throughout the afternoon to parents who had come to pick them up.
