It was a long weekend for more than 120 Oxnard residents, who were displaced from their homes by two separate apartment complex fires.
The first fire occurred just after 5 p.m. Saturday (12/3), on the 1300 block of Edgewood Way. The fire gutted one unit, and damaged two others, and because the cause of the blaze wasn’t immediately clear, the power was turned off. The American Red Cross set up an emergency shelter at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center which was used by some of the approximately 50 people who were displaced.
Then, at about 1:30 Sunday morning, a fire at an apartment complex on the 400 block of Cuesta Del Mar in Oxnard displaced nearly 80 more people, some of whom also ended up at the already open shelter. That fire was quickly contained, but the utilities were shut off to the complex for the remainder of the early morning hours.
