The Ventura County Community College District’s chancellor is going to retire a year early, passing up the final year of his contract.
James Meznek notified the district’s Board of Trustees this week that he would step down next summer.
He brought stability to the district at a difficult time, after the previous chancellor resigned following controversy over some of his spending.
In recent years, the district has faced a new set of challenges in the face of massive state funding cuts. The district includes Ventura, Oxnard, and Moorpark Colleges.
Trustees are expected later this month to discuss how they want to proceed with finding a successor.
