A local congressman and his wife are spearheading their annual drive to bring food, and toys during the holidays to Ventura County military families who have family members deployed around the world.
Republican Congressman Elton Gallegly of Simi Valley, and his wife Janice have conducted the campaign for nearly a decade. Starting this weekend, hundreds of hams and pies, along with 750 toy gift bags, and about 500 bicycles and tricycles will be packaged, and then delivered to local military families. The volunteers will prepare the gift items this weekend, for distribution next weekend.
The congressman says it’s a way of saying thank you to families who are making the often unnoticed sacrifice of having a loved one deployed around the world during the holiday season.
