Ventura County is going to try to get some state bond money to repair some deficent levees.
County Supervisors will seek $21 million dollars in funding for up to eight levee projects.
If the county gets the money, not only will it improve the safety for owners of more than five thousand parcels of land in the county, it will save them millions in flood insurance.
There’s a $50 million dollar state fund for projects of this type which was approved by voters five years ago.
But, even if the county gets some, or all of what it’s seeking, local agencies could have to come up with as much as $100 million dollars to finish the repairs.
