Southern Santa Barbara County may finally be on target to get a “Target” department store.
The chain has been trying to open a store in the are for years.
A proposal to build one near Santa Barbara Airport was denied a few years ago, with traffic concerns the biggest issue.
Now, the chain is working with the City of Goleta to try to get some general plan amendments, to build a store near the intersection of Hollister Avenue, and Los Carneros Way.
The Goleta City Council set the stage, with okaying a public planning process which could take up to two years.
Target is proposing a two story, 164 thousand square foot store, which could employ close to 200 people.
