Ventura Women Sentenced To Prison For Roles In Stealing Hundreds Of Thousands Of Dollars From Apartment Complex Owners

Posted on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 12:29am

Two Ventura women have received long prison sentences, after they were both convicted of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from an apartment complex they managed.

Melissa Lopez, and Cheryl Figueroa managed the 150 unit Ventura Village Green complex.

Ventura Police detectives say the pair would offer some tenants rent discounts if they paid in cash, but would then claim in ledgers the units were vacant.

Investigators say they also waved rent payments for some tenants.  The two were convicted of conspiracy, grand theft, and computer fraud.

Lopez received a five year sentence, and Figueroa four years.

Lopez got a longer sentence because prosecutors say she was involved in the scheme longer.

Between the two of them, they were also ordered to pay more than $900,000 in restitution.
