A fire started when a palm tree whipped by high winds hit a power line spread throughout two blocks of Ventura, but was contained before it could explode out of control.
The blaze started at around 2 p.m. yesterday, on the 100 block of Ann Street. As firefighters starting fighting the fire which had spread to a home, high wind spread embers a block away, to Laurel Street. Firefighters were able to contain the flames, and keep them from spreading past Laurel Street. The fire caused more than $140,000 in damage to an outbuilding, an RV, a carport, and a duplex.
