A Ventura County minister who was a force in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and was a gay rights advocate will be honored at a special ceremony tomorrow (10/28), nine months after his death.

The Reverend Paul Egertson will be celebrated at California Lutheran University’s annual Founders Day Convocation tomorrow morning.

The 75 year old minister died in January, as the result of a heart attack.

Egerston was a faculty member at CLU in Thousand Oaks for decades.  In 2001, he was asked to resign as a bishop, because he ordained a lesbian minister.  At the time, church policy was to only ordain celebate lesbian ministers.

Egertson’s’s son will be on hand at the ceremony to celebrate the late minister’s efforts to bring the academic, and religious worlds together.
