Two Men Seriously Injured While Trying To Fight Fire In Ventura

Posted on Thursday, October 13, 2011 6:47am

Two men suffered serious injuries while fighting a fire at a Ventura duplex.

It happened at about 6:30 last night, on the 9500 block of El Cajon Street.  Ventura firefighters arrived to find two men fighting a fire which was burning landscaping, and the front of the duplex.  The men had hooked up a hose to a fire hydrant.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the blaze before it damaged the inside of the unit, but realized both men were having problems breathing because of smoke inhalation.

They were both taken to the Ventura County Medical Center, where they were reported to be in critical condition.

Investigators say the fire was started by children playing with matches.
