Attorney In Ventura County Could Face Fire Years In Prison Following No Contest Plea

Posted on Thursday, October 6, 2011 9:55am

A Simi Valley attorney could potentially face up to five years in state prison, after pleading no contest to dozens of charges related to embezzlement allegations.

Russell Takasugi entered the no contest plea to 34 counts stemming from allegations he embezzled more than a half million dollars from the estate of a client.  Prosecutors had sought a longer potential sentence, but the judge kep the potential maximum to five years, noting the 57-year-old attorney had repaid the money before criminal charges were filed.  Takasugi had contended the use of the money was a loan.  Sentencing is set for December 9th.

Takasugi is the son of Nao Takasugi, the late Mayor of Oxnard, and State Assemblyman for part of Ventura County.
