A Ventura Police Officer was injured when officers tried to arrest an auto theft suspect, and he fought with them.
It happened just after 8 p.m. Thursday night (9/21), in a supermarket parking lot on the 7800 block of Telegraph Road. Police were called by someone who thought they saw a man casing vehicles in the lot. When they arrived, they found John Rupp of Ventura, and figured out he was a suspect in connection with an auto theft earlier in the day.
Officers say as they tried to arrest the 18-year-old man, he started fighting with them. They used a Taser, but say it failed to stop the violent behavior, but they were finally able to pin Rupp down, and arrest him.
He’s facing auto theft, resisting arrest, and battery of a peace officer charges. The officer was treated, and released at a hospital for his injuries.
