PPIC Poll: Concern About State’s Economy

Posted on Thursday, September 22, 2011 11:40am

A new poll shows Californians’ growing concerns about the state of the economy.

The new poll from the Public Policy Institute of California shows just about everybody thinks the state is in a recession—-but opinions differ about the degree.  50% say they think California is in a serious recession. About a third say it’s moderate, only 7% say it’s mild. Half of Californians are concerned that someone in their family will lose their job in the next year. Nearly all say the state budget situation is a problem—-and that their local government services have been affected by budget cuts.

The P-P-I-C survey reinforced the recent Field Poll findings that Governor Jerry Brown currently enjoys a much higher approval rating than the legislature does.

The survey of some two-thousand Californians was conducted early this month—just prior to the announcement that the state’s unemployment rate had increased to 12.1%.
