A decision by The City of Thousand Oaks to allow a new “Hooters” restaurant to open is being appealed.
A Thousand Oaks resident filed an appeal of last week’s administrative decision allowing the opening the restaurant on the 400 block of North Moorpark Drive, in the Janss Marketplace. The city approved the plans because the restaurant would be going into an existing restaurant space, and with nearly three quarters of nearby restaurants operating full bars, there were no grounds to deny the request to serve hard liquor.
But, more than 1200 comments were received in opposition to the proposed restaurant and bar, with many people saying the chain which features servers in tank tops, and shorts doesn’t promote family friendly values. City officials didn’t have the latitude to look at that issue in an administrative hearing, but the Planning Commission has that power. If either side doesn’t like the Planning Commission’s decision, the issue could potentially be appealed one more time, to the Thousand Oaks City Council.
