Figures released Friday by the California Employment Development Department show California with the 2nd highest unemployment rate in the nation, behind Nevada.
The state’s jobless rate rose from 12% in July to 12.1% in August. Construction took the biggest hit, losing 7,200 jobs.
Over the past year, California has gained 171,300 jobs, the 2nd highest rate of growth, with Texas in the lead.
Nationally, unemployment remains at 9.1%.
