Grant Will Help Complete Documentation Of Massive Research Collection In Santa Barbara County

Posted on Friday, September 9, 2011 9:41am

An $80,000 federal grant is going to help U.C. Santa Barbara’s Cheadle Center for Biodiversity and Ecological Restoration complete the curation, docymentation, and database processing of its unique, nearly 25,000 specimen collection.

The two year grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services will allow the USCB center to hire a curatorial assistant, and create an internship program to help with the processing.  The completed database will give researchers locally, nationally, and around the world access to the database via the internet.

The Cheadle Center has a massive collection of herpetological, ornithological, and mammalian specimens.  The little know collection is housed in a massive facility under the grandstands of the university’s Harder Stadium.
