Posted on Thursday, September 8, 2011 12:25pm

The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for Santa Barbara’s mountains, and front country areas for Thursday night (8/8), with the potential for sundowner winds.

Sundowners are similar to Southern California’s Santa Ana winds, but a unique event which usually occurs several times a year in the Santa Barbara area.  The Santa Barbara County Fire Department says while this is the time of year when staffing is at its peak due to the brushfire potential, it’s added additional resources, including three extra engines, a water tender, and a bulldozer.

The State Office Of Emergency Services has also prepositioned a strike team, with five engines in the Goleta area.
