Santa Barbara County Advances Controversial Efforts To Cut Air Pollution

Santa Barbara County Supervisors approved plans to take a study, and use it to develop a plan to try to meet, or exceed state guidelines in cutting air pollution.  The issue is controversial, because some people question efforts which might put new restrictions, or regulations on agriculture or business at a time when the economy is reeling, and unemployment is high.  Environmental advocates say the goal of cutting pollution by at least 15% by 2020 is a worthy goal. but opponents note that the county only can regulate unincorporated areas, and can’t touch one of the biggest sources of air pollution, which is cargo ships off our coastline.  KCLU’s Lance Orozco has more on the debate:
