Santa Barbara County Supervisors are expected to make a decision this week on a proposal to give a beach cabana, and a funicular at a Hope Ranch beach historic protections, which would clear the way for their renovation.
Owners of Marsupial Properties had asked the county’s Historic Landmarks Advisory Commission to approve the designation for the structures on the 1500 block of Roble Drive, which the did, sending it to county supervisors for final consideration.
The owners want to make improvents to, and expand the 1930′s era structures. The cabana and funicular are technically not in compliance with the county’s Coastal Land Use Plan, which encourages the removal of non-conforming structures. However, the exception is historic structures, which can be exempted from the plan.
