Hundreds Of Pounds Of Marijuana Found On Ventura County Beach

Posted on Thursday, September 1, 2011 2:19am

Authorities recovered about 250 pounds of marijuana from a beach in the Pt. Mugu State park area in Ventura County, as well as a boat as the result of what they think was an attempted smuggling operation.

Ventura and Los Angeles Counties authorities were called to the area around 7:45 this morning in what was initially reported as a possible rescue.  They found canisters of gasoline, clothes, and bricks of marijuana strewn on the beach.  A small boat was found grounded a short distance away.

An air, sea, and land search has failed to identify anyone who might have been in the boat.

Last week, 10 people were taken into custody in the Malibu area in what authorities called a human smuggling operation.
