A Santa Barbara County based national project to produce a comprehensive set of works of famed American social philosopher Henry Thoreau has received a big financial boost.
The National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded a $245,000 grant to the U.C. Santa Barbara based Thoreau Edition.
The project has been based at several U.S. universities since it was created in 1966, but has been at UCSB for the last few years. The project’s goal is to produce a comprehensive, 28 volume series of the 19th century author’s works.
The collection will also include 151 letters which have been discovered since the last collection of his letters came out in 1958.
