Joe Luna was a familiar name to most Ventura County resident, because for many years, he was the voice of the Ventura County Fire Department, as its public information officer. He appeared many times on KCLU, talking about everything from breaking fire news, to public safety issues. Luna died from cancer in 2007, less than a year after retiring.
Luna’s legacy with the department is being celebrated with the naming of a new media information center at the Ventura County Fire department’s headquarters in Camarillo. The center will serve as a conference room during normal times, but during a major disaster like a brush fire, it’s equipped with phone, and computer setups so media inquires can be easily fielded from a centralized location.
