A 37-year-old Ventura man is behind bars after police say he punched an officer in the face, and then smashed his bicycle into a patrol car.
It happened around two a.m. Thursday (8/30). Officers responding to calls of suspicious activity on the 500 block of Rancho Street in Ventura saw Jose Pasqual Hernandez leaving the area on bike. They say they tried to stop the 37-year-old man. One of the officers got out of the patrol car, and tried to grab Hernandez. The officer was then struck in the face, and Hernandez tried to escape on his bike.
Another office tried to block the fleeing man with a patrol car, but the bicyclist smashed into vehicle, and was then arrested on multiple charges ranging from assaulting a police officer to resisting arrest.
The officer suffered cuts, and bruises, but was not seriously injured.
