Los Angeles had “Carmageddon”…all the hype about the closure of a section of the 405 Freeway for a weekend, due to freeway upgrades. It didn’t amount to much, as people made alternate travel plans.
Now, Ventura County is going to have its own major freeway shutdown for repairs, and construction crews are hoping it goes just as smoothly. The 101 Freeway will be completely shut down in the Oxnard area during the overnight hours at least three times next week (8/29-8/31), and potentially a fourth (9/1).
The closure is to allow key construction work to take place on the Rice Avenue/Santa Clara Avenue interchange at the 101 Freeway.
The shutdown will be in effect from 12:00 a.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week, with possibly the same schedule on Thursday morning if all the scheduled work isn’t completed.
All 101 freeway traffic will be routed off the freeway onto surface streets during the closure, so there could be traffic backups.
