Gold Coast Transit has resumed normal operations, with enough drivers reporting to work that the system serving Western Ventura County was able to field busses on all scheduled routes on Friday (8/12).
The bus system was hit by large numbers of drivers calling in sick from August 8th-11th. Union members denied it was an organized sickout, but so many drivers called in sick over a four day period that over 500 runs had to be cancelled.
On Thursday, Gold Coast and union officials agreed to resume negotiations over a new contract. More than 120 members of Service Employees International Union Local 720 have been working withour a contract since last fall. One of the main sticking pointxs is working conditions, with drivers concerned about the use of security cameras on busses, which they fear may be used against them.
