A new Acting Superintendent/President has been named for Santa Barbara City College, to replace a leader who had been hit by controversy.
Dr. Jack Friedlander will serve in the post through June 30th of next year, while a search for a new Superintendent/President is conducted. Friedlander has been with the college for 25 years.
He will take over management of the district from Dr. Andreea Serban.
Serban had been placed on paid leave by district trustees, but is still technically Superintendent/President.
In an agreement, she has been granted a leave of absence which requires her to be paid what could be hundreds of thousands of dollars for the remainder of her contract, unless she takes another job.
Some trustees had issues with her leadership style, but because it was considered a personnel issue, the exact reasoning for the change isn’t known.
