Navy Seal From Santa Barbara Among 30 American Killed In Afghanistan Special Operations Mission

Posted on Thursday, August 11, 2011 3:14pm

The Department of Defense says that a Navy Seal from Santa Barbara is among the 30 U.S. service members killed in the crash of a military helicopter which took fire from Taliban insurgents on August 6th.

Special Warfare Operator Master Chief Operator Master Chief Petty Officer Louis Langlais died in the Chinook helicopter crash.  The 44-year-old man lived all over the country, but went to Santa Barbara schools on and off throughout his childhood, and teen years.

Military officials normally don’t release the names of Special Operations team members, but did in this case because many families had already gone public.

The Pentagon says on Tuesday, it was able to track down, and launch an air strike which killed several of the insurgents responsible for last Saturday’s attack.
