Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies are trying to figure out why the driver of an SUV apparently lost control of the vehicle on a Goleta street, fatally injuring one person, and injuring two others when it slammed into a wall.
It happened just before 7 p.m. Tuesday, on the 8000 block of Hollister Avenue.
Investigators say a 17-year-old girl lost control of the westbound vehicle, and it slammed into a concrete retaining wall. 24-year-old Francisco Javier Castellanos of Santa Barbara was fatally injured. The driver, and a second passenger were injured, but are expected to recover.
Investigators say while their work is still incomplete, they think alcohol may have played a role in the crash.
