A local foundation has made a $500,000 gift towards establishment of Ventura County’s first Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. The Harriet Samuelsson Foundation pledged the money towards the PICU planned for the Ventura County Medical Center. PICU’s are similar to traditional intensive care units, but have special facilities, equipment, and staffing to help critically ill, or injured children.
County Supervisors are expected to formally accept the gift tomorrow morning (8/2), which goes to the Ventura County Medical Resource Foundation, which is supporting the PICU project. The new PICU will be named after Samuelsson.
