The Air Force says it destroyed a Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile launched from Vandenberg Air Force base early Wednesday morning, because of what they are calling a “flight anomaly”. The missile was destroyed at 3:06 a.m., just minutes after takeoff northeast of the island of Roi-Namur in the Marshall Islands. Air Force officials say it was over the ocean, away from populated areas when it was destroyed as a precaution.
The launch was one in a series of Minuteman launches from the facility in Santa Barbara County to test the weapon system’s reliability, and accuracy.
