Posted on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 7:00am

The Oxnard Unified High School District has selected a new superintendent.

District trustees announced that they’ve hired Burbank Unifed School District Assistant Superintendent Gabe Soumakian for their top spot.  He was one of three finalists for the post, and his background includes 16 years as a teacher before working as a school administrator.

Superintendent Bob Carter resigned last spring, with one year left on his contract.  Assistant Superintendent Bill Dabbs took over the district’s leadership for the remainder of the school year.
