The former head of Camarillo’s school district has agreed to temporarily head a small Ventura County district that’s been wracked by controversy.
Howard Hamilton will serve as interim superintendent for the Rio School District, which recently dumped its third superintendent in a row. Hamilton retired from his position as superintendent of the Pleasant Valley School District in 2004. He’s been given a one year contract to head the Rio District.
All five district trustees voted for Hamilton’s hiring.
Earlier this year, two board members accused the board’s majority of firing then superintendent Sherianne Cotterell because they’d been influenced by campaign supporters, an allegation denied by the board’s president.
