Ventura Man Arrested On Charge Of Impersonating A Police Officer

Posted on Sunday, July 17, 2011 7:13pm

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department arrested a Ventura man they say impersonated a police officer, not only stopping a vehicle, but taking some credit cards during a supposed search.

Investigators say it happened June 25th, in Thousand Oaks.  The victim told detectives that he was stopped by a pickup which had a light bar like a police car, and a man dressed like a police officer searched his vehicle.  After the search was over, the victim realized two of his credit cards were missing.  The cards were later used in various places from Los Angeles, to Santa Cruz.

Detectives say they used surveillance video to identify Craig William Voss of Ventura as the man behind the crimes.  They say in addition to charges he impersonated a police officer, and grand theft, they also linked him to two home burglaries, and a third attempt in Camarillo Springs.
