Federal Agency Rejects Extradition Request for Santa Barbara Couple

Posted on Saturday, July 16, 2011 12:47pm

The Justice Department rejected a request from the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office to extradite Randi and Evi Quaid from canada, to the United States.  The Quaids are wanted in Santa Barbara on vandalism charges in connection with allegations they moved into a Montecito home they no longer owned.  Last year, the couple went to Canada, and received permission to stay there permanently.  Randy Quaid claimed he and his wife were the target of threats in the U.S.  In denying the request, the Justice Department said it reserves extradition proceedings for more serious crimes, and this doesn’t meet that threshold.  Randy Quaid is best known for his roles in the National Lampoon “Vacation” movies, and the blockbuster movie “Independence Day”.
