A brushfire east of Moorpark is now out, after causing a big scare Friday afternoon. The blaze was first reported around noon July 15th, near the 118 Freeway, and Collins Drive. The fire burned in the foothills on the north side of the freeway, in an undeveloped area.
It caused heavy congestion on the westbound 118 from Simi Valley to Moorpark for most of the afternoon. A wheel coming off a big rig truck caused the fire, with sparks starting a fire in brush next to freeway. More than 250 firefighters battled the blaze, with full containment happening around midnight Friday. No homes were threatened.
KCLU’s Lance Orozco reports from the scene. Click on link to listen to/download story: Moorpark Fire
