The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department has extended a lockdown of prisoners at the main county jail, after new violence was reported at the Goleta complex, in what is being called the sixth incident in ten days.
On Monday (July 11th), a fight involving 15 inmates resulted in two of them being seriously injured enough they had to be taken to a hospital with head injuries. By Wednesday, things had calmed down enough that jail officials started to lift the lockdown, one part of the jail at a time. However, there was a new fight at the jail Wednesday night involving six inmates, which left another inmate so seriously injured he had to be taken to a hospital.
The lockdown status means inmates are confined to their cells, and outside visitation is often limited.
