The U.S. Coast Guard, and the National Park Service have rescued 15 people from the Channel Islands they say were stranded there by people who had promise to smuggle them into the United States.
The Coast Guard fist received a phone call on Friday from somone saying they were among three people were stranded somewhere in the islands. An air and sea search failed to find them. Officials spread the word to commerical and recreation sailers, hoping they could help.
The stranded peopled were found, and rescued from Santa Cruz Island on Sunday, and it was discovered there were actually 15 people. They were taken to Santa Barbara, where they were turned over to Customs, and Border Control officials.
