Nationally known U.C. Santa Barbara Black Studies Professor Clyde Woods has died. Woods was Acting Director for UCSB’s Center For Black Studies Research, and the author of three critically acclaimed books. He was involved in efforts to rebuild New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, and also with a project to study race, and policy issues in Southern California. Family members say Woods died at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara this week, but there’s no word on the cause of death. He was 54 years old.
