Firefighters Control Brushfire Near Cal State Channel Islands

Posted on Friday, July 8, 2011 2:22pm

Ventura County firefighters, aided by units from CALFIRE controlled a brushfire which burned more than seven acres of land just north of Cal State Channel Islands, in Camarillo.  Fire investigators say a model airplane accidentally started the fire at around 10:15 Friday morning, sending up smoke visible throughout much of central Ventura County.  Firefighters say the blaze had spread to about four acres by the time they reached the scene, but an aggressive attack using hand crews, bulldozers, and a helicopter kept it from burning out of control into some rugged foothills.  The fire was contained around 1 p.m. No structures were damaged.
