Opening statements are over, and the trial of Brandon McInerney underway in the February, 2008 shooting death of fellow student Larry King at an Oxnard junior high school, in what prosecutors call a hate crime. Both sides in the case say there’s no question McInerney killed King, but the question is why. Prosecutors say they will try to show that it was a planned killing which was influenced by McInerney’s interest in white supremacy. Defense attorney contend it was McInerney’s response to being sexually harassed by King. KCLU’s Lance Orozco reports from the Los Angeles County courthouse, in Chatsworth.
