A Ventura man is dead, after an attempt to serve him with an eviction notice led to a five hour standoff with a “SWAT” team.
Dozens of homes were evacuated after a shot was heard at a condominium on the 1100 block of Carlsbad Place just before nine this morning.
Officers tried for hours to establish contact with the man, and finally sent in a robot which showed he was lying on the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
People were allowed to return to the neighborhood at around 2 p. m.
There’s no word on exactly what led to the death, but officers were preparing to serve the eviction notice when they, and residents of the condominium complex heard a shot. An autopsy is pending.
