A section of the northbound 101 freeway in the Camarillo area was closed for more than six hours, following a fatal traffic accident involving nine vehicles. It happened just after 12 a.m. Wednesday near Camarillo Springs Road, in a construction zone. The CHP says two of the three lanes were closed due to construction, and the driver of an asphalt truck coming off the Conejo Grade couldn’t stop in time when it came across stopped traffic in the third lane. The big rig slammed into a dump truck, creating a gigantic chain reaction. The asphalt truck’s driver, Jose Antonio Avelar of Sylmar. was fatally injured. Some of the northbound freeway lanes were reopened by 7 a.m., but the accident caused huge backups on the northbound 101 in the Conejo Valley during the morning commute.
