The California Citizen’s Redistricting Commission voted 14-0 Friday to approve it’s first draft maps for Congressional, State Assembly, State Senate and Board of Equalization Districts. The commission was created by voters with the passage of Proposition 11 in 2008.
In a statement, commissioners said, “the Commission prepared these draft maps without regard to current districts, incumbents, candidates or political parties.” The new boundaries could result in more competitive races in many areas.
The Commission will be soliciting comments on the redistricting proposal at public hearings in June. A final draft will be released August 15.
