Bin Laden Death-California Reaction

Posted on Monday, May 2, 2011 5:25am

At the State Capitol building in Downtown Sacramento Sunday night, about 20 people gathered for a spontaneous rally celebrating the death of Osama bin Laden.
Some people waved giant American flags.   Others were dressed in patriotic clothing.
Cali Beebee of Sacramento said when she and friend Shane Cochran heard President Obama’s announcement of bin Laden’s death, they thought the State Capitol would be an appropriate place to celebrate.
“We came down here, no political affiliation, nothing,” she said.  ”We were just talking about how we were both freshmen in high school when September 11th happened.  It was a big deal for us then so we wanted to be somewhere, be patriotic.”
Beebee added, “It’s more of a symbol thing than anything else.  We’re just happy that people can find a little bit of relief in something like this.”
